Finding Carter

What would you do if you´ll find out that your mum is not your biological mother and did not even adopt you, but KIDNAPPED you?!
This is one of the biggest questions Carter, the main character in MTV´s latest series "Finding Carter" has to deal with. I really liked the episodes that aired so far; there is a family that has to deal with the fact, that their missing child/sister is not dead and back in their lives; there is the kidnapper, who wants "her child" back; there are Carters friends from her live before the big reveal, who do not know how to deal with this new situation.....and there is Carter herself, trying to make sense of this mess. After all she love the women she called "mum" for so long and to see the character struggle with her emotions regarding both of her mums is kind of heartbreaking. Let´s be clear on something: Taking away a child from it´s family is something very cruel and should be punished, the show is very specific on that fact, but it also shows very realistic both sides of the story:

Carters real mum is a cop, who is more determined to catch the kidnapper then to find time to get to know her long lost daughter. Sound really harsh, right? But think about the fact, that she probably thought she would never find her kid alive and that fact alone, made her give up inside......she became an other person, too. Carter on the other hand tries to explain to her "new" family, that her "mum" is not a bad person, after all she raised her (okay, with a fake name and without the whole truth, but she raised her)...she did not kill her or treat her badly. The girl tries to wrap her head around the fact, that she now has a little brother AND a twin sister! When you grow up as a only child you can imagine how difficult this must be for her. But she does her best, but she seems to clash a lot with her biological mother, you most of the time seems very emotionless :/

Her father on the other hand is more then welcoming, he seems to have a connection with her right away, which makes his next step seem even more mean: He is a writer and already published a book about Carters disappearance.....and now his publisher had the great idea to write a book about having Carter back. They do not even give her the time to come home and deal with everything.....her dad starts to write about her and her life behind her back....something that most definitely will come back to haunt him.
Carters twin sister is completely different.....Carter herself is this outgoing, confident person...and her sister is......just not ;) But she already seems to blossom a little bit.....it seems that she does it more to harm Carter, but so far it helps her personal life too :)

The little brother in the story is, as he himself says the "replacement" child, that his parents needed, when his sister disappeared. Sounds harsh, but in a lot of scenes you actually can see what he means: Most of the times he is just there and no one seems to take anything he says seriously.

As you can see "Finding Carter" is not only about finding this long lost daughter...it´s about so much more. It´s about family, friends, enemies who not even feel like enemies, boyfriends, school friends and getting your life back.

I recommend this tv show to everyone, who wants to watch an other kind of teenage tv series. Most of the scenes feel really grown up and the themes that the show covers are very interesting.

If you already started to watch it let me know what you think in the comment section :)
