Dexter

Dexter - 08.12 "Remember the monsters ?" (series finale)

Since it was the series finale and I got a lot of different emotions running around in my head I needed to start with our favourite serial killer Dexter Morgan:

After eight seasons it was time to say goodbye to the dark passenger and his TV family; it surprised me how it ended to be honest. Dexter driving into the storm after throwing his dead sister overboard was kind of surreal. But lets start at the beginning:
At the end of 8.11 we saw Oliver Saxon shooting Debra, in the beginning of the finale she gets taken to the hospital where Batista and the crew decide to call Dexter, to let him know whats going on. Of course they don´t think twice, I mean everyone would like to know if their family member was shot, right?! Anyway, Dexter, who ran into some problems at the airport, involving Hannah comes to see his sister in the hospital. At this point I feel like I need to say something about the whole "lets run away to Argentina" idea. I do not and I repeat: I DO NOT like Hannah and Dexter together, I mean I get the whole "they are ment to be together and love each other idea", but I just can not trust this woman. And for Dexter to leave his kid with this psycho is just to much for me. But lets talk about this later. In the hospital our favourite serial killer later runs into Mr. Saxon, but after a almost stand of between those to Oliver gets arrested (yay Angel!!). Dexter opens the door to Debra's hospital room, and it is empty!! At this point my eyes where watery and I honestly believed she was gone. This feeling was intensified when I saw Dexter walking up to Joey Quinn, who turns around, trying not to cry. It turns out Debra is in very critical condition and fighting for her life, supported by a lung ventilator. Seeing her lying in the hospital bed, on the cusp of death broke my heart. The flashbacks (Dexter and his sister right after the birth of Harrison; talking about how Dexter always tried to protect her) showed once more, how close those characters where. Seeing his sister like that triggers something in Dexter, and we all know what that is:
So I was not surprised at all, when he killed Saxon in his prison cell, that by the way was under surveillance. The next shot got me on my feet for a milli second; Dexter sitting in a corner of the interrogation room in the police department, watching the surveillance tape with Angel and Joey. At this point I thought "Okay Dex, time to man up and tell them that you kill people who did horrible things. Those guys are cops, but also your family, so they´ll be okay after they think about it for a few days;)". Instead he can convince them that it was self defence and they let him go. Really?!
In the meantime we see Hannah taking a bus with little Harrison out to the next airport...but little does she know someone caught up with her. But our psycho wouldn´t be a good stepmother, if she wouldn´t carry a syringe in her backpack! So after this problem is solved she can fly of to Argentina. How could Dexter let his son in her care? How can he trust her after all she did to him and his family? I really need a good explanation for this.
After a while we see Dex in his brown "ready to kill" outfit, entering his boat and leaving for the hospital. When he arrives the first tails of the upcoming storms are doing what they do best: storm:) Dexter enters the hospital and enters Debs room. My heart stops for a second as I begin to think: boat+ killing outfit=fragmented bodies in the ocean! He sits next to his sister and says "I can not leave you like this!"; after crying and thinking about his loved one, Dex turns of the life saving machines and waits on her side until the monitor flat lines. My heart sank, although you saw it coming it´s always sad to see a beloved character go. Dex carries her out of the hospital onto his boat (seriously, how blind are the people of Miami?!) and the rest i mentioned earlier. The most confusing/frustrating part of last nights finale where the last 2 minutes: After our adored main character takes his boat for a ride into the eye of the storm, we see Hannah sitting in a cafĂ© in Argentina with "her" little boy Harrison, reading on her tablet, that Dexter went missing and is presumed dead. She wipes away some tears, to hide them from the boy and they go off to eat some ice cream. After that we see a worker at some kind of wood factory thing.....I right away knew it was Dex, I mean, why else show a bearded worker?! We follow him into his shed like home, where he looks very sad and lonely. He sits down at the only table in the room and stress directly at the viewer, with his "I´m ready to kill someone" look and the screen goes black! That´s it?!?! Hannah gets a semi-Happy End with a child that she practically kidnapped and Dex has to suffer in exile? I mean he did it, so that his son can live an almost normal life, but how normal can this be? At some time, the feds will find Hannah, because after all, she is a wanted woman! And what happens to Harrison then?He will be forced to live with foster parents or someone else. How could Dex do this to his child, he already lost one parent! I had so many hope for Dexter this season; I could have turned his life around, by stopping after killing Saxton and banning Hannah from his life. But instead he sacrificed everything for a not very trustworthy woman, who got everything she wanted: freedom!

Well, let me know what you think? Did you like the way "Dexter" ended or did you expect something else?
