After the first wave of shocked tweets, blog posts and facebook comments seems to lessen I think it´s time I add my two cents to the whole situation.
Two days ago they announced, that Charlie Hunnam will NOT play the role of the hunky, sexy beast Christian Grey in the film adaption of the "50 shades" franchise. And something strange happened.....people actually got upset!! I have to say I was pretty surprised when I heard the news, because I thought he was a good match, but what stunned me even more was the fan reaction around the globe. People who mount the barricades after he was cast and actually tried to set up a petition to force E.L. James to recast where suddenly starting petitions to keep him as Christian Grey! Don´t get me wrong, I mean if you red my blog post on the whole Charlie playing Mr. Grey story you know that at first I wasn´t very confident that he could actually play the role. But if we put this aside I think people should calm down, take a deep breath and just trust the producers that they´ll find the right Mr. Grey.
As for Mr. Hunnam I got to tell you guys now that a few days have passed I´m actually not that surprised anymore that he left this very "unique" role for someone else to play. I mean we all see how the press and the fans are already freaking out over the casting news. The attention that this trilogy is getting is pretty frightening. just imagine how crazy it will get once the promotion process will start. So even though they did not mention it directly in the statement:
"The filmmakers of FIFTY SHADES OF GREY and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to
find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is
not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian
Grey."
I think that Charlie just didn´t want all the attention and this is his decision to make and only his! Shure one could say that he could have thought about this earlier, but haven´t you ever made a decision and regretted it later? Well, anyways although, as I mentioned before, I would have liked him as Christian Grey, I now think it would be best if they cast someone new to the business. And I personally think that this is the route that they are going....just consider this:
An actor who is in the business for a while already has some sort of reputation that they could put on the line by taking this job. Just imagine that the movie will NOT measure up to the expectations of the majority of the "50 shades" readers.....what will happen to the lead actor then? He (and lets not forget she) will always be the one who had this weird role in this weird movie. An actor on the other hand, that is new to the business and just had maybe a few small roles doesn´t have anything to loose right?
Overall I think the decision that Charlie made was very smart and kind of bold, not everyone would have had the guts to do it. So all the best to him and let´s wait who´ll get the role now.
You now know my preference about who should play kinky Mister Grey, but I´ll like to hear your take on it.....!!
Let´s talk tv.....or better said: Let´s talk movies!!

Ok, on one hand I am a bit sad not to see Charlie in 50 Shades but on the other hand it is maybe the better career move for him. Those who will play Christian and Ana will always be stigmatized with this movie and it will be hard to get other acting roles. Charlie has a huge SOA fanbase, he played oin the summer blockbuster Pacific Rim and I am sure we will see him on the big screen again.
ReplyDeleteChristian Bale would be a good choice beacuse he is mysterious, he showed in Bat man that he has the body for it andhe looks hot in a black suit+ he is really talented.
